چکیده

This article presents a system level model of carbon nanotube (CNT) based mechanical sensor, which consists of micro-electro-mechanical (MEMS) platform that is served to actuate single-axis force and single CNT is placed between the movable and fixed electrodes. The change in conductivity of CNT, when strain is applied, is used to measure force or displacement. The simulation of the whole sensor element will be achieved by using the framework of hardware description languages (VHDL-AMS and SystemC-AMS) that uses compact models to describe sub-elements performing heterogeneous functions. The CNT piezoresistive compact model presented in the article is based on the analytical model and the simulations results from density functional theory (DFT). The macromodel of the MEMS platform is build using mode superposition technique. The results of the system simulations are presented and discussed in the article.

Pull-in behavior of a bio-mass sensor based on an electrostatically actuated cantilevered CNT with consideration of rippling effect

This paper examines the pull-in behavior of a bio-mass sensor with a cantilevered CNT actuated electrostatically by considering rippling deformation. Although this phenomenon can remarkably change the behavior of CNT, its effect on the performance of a CNT-based mass sensor has not been investigated thus far. This investigation is based on modified Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and rippling effec...

A multi-axis MEMS sensor with integrated carbon nanotube-based piezoresistors for nanonewton level force metrology.

This paper presents the design and fabrication of a multi-axis microelectromechanical system (MEMS) force sensor with integrated carbon nanotube (CNT)-based piezoresistive sensors. Through the use of proper CNT selection and sensor fabrication techniques, the performance of the CNT-based MEMS force sensor was increased by approximately two orders of magnitude as compared to current CNT-based se...

From Carbon Nanotube Yarns to Sensors: Recent Findings and Challenges

Carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays can be drawn into a web and then twisted into threads. These CNT threads contain thousands of carbon nanotubes in their cross-section and can be further composed into yarns consisting of one or more threads. CNT yarns exhibit significant mechanical stiffness and strength and low electrical resistivity. More importantly, CNT yarns exhibit piezoresistance that could b...

Submicroscale Flow Sensor Employing Suspended Hot Film with Carbon Nanotube Fins

A submicroscale flow sensor has been developed that consists of a suspended hot film and carbon nanotube (CNT) fins. Flow measurement experiments, together with a theoretical model, revealed the advantages of the use of CNT fins. The suspended metal film reduces heat loss and the CNT fins enhance the heat transfer to the fluid flow. Herein, the working principle of the CNT fins is presented in ...

Wave Propagation Analysis of CNT Reinforced Composite Micro-Tube Conveying Viscose Fluid in Visco-Pasternak Foundation Under 2D Multi-Physical Fields

In this research, wave propagation analysis in polymeric smart nanocomposite micro-tubes reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) conveying fluid is studied. The surrounded elastic medium is simulated by visco-Pasternak model while the composite micro-tube undergoes electro-magneto-mechanical fields. By means of micromechanics method, the constitutive structural coefficients of nano...
